318TH FG ON le SHIMA, OKINAWA
This original stock footage without narration is dynamic! Without a narrator I totally concentrate on the video content. Ninety-nine percent of this stock footage I've never seen.
According to Wikipedia, "The 318th was the first unit to receive the new long range P-47Ns in early 1945 before moving to Okinawa on le Shima." Beside the standard internal fuel supply and drop tanks of previous models, the P-47N was upgraded with a new 50 gallon fuel tank in each wing and squared-off wingtips giving it a range of 2000 miles. Also, the P-47 was the most expensive single engine fighter built, at the cost of $83,000 per copy.
